President Biden’s poll numbers continue their downward slide as crises mount.
Barely one in three Americans approve of how the president is handling the situation in Ukraine.
In a Gallup poll released after Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered his “peacekeeping” forces to Ukraine, a Gallup survey found that just 36 percent of Americans approve of the way Biden and his administration have responded to the “situation with Russia” while 55 percent of respondents disapproved.
While fewer than two-thirds of Democrats polled (64 percent) support how the president has handled the Russia situation, only 11 percent of Republicans supported the president’s choices, along with 35 percent of Independents.
The survey found that 86 percent of respondents who identified themselves as Republican disapproved of Biden’s actions and response to Russia, while 31 percent of Democrats and 53 percent of Independents said they disapprove.
The poll was released after the “first tranche” of sanctions was announced, which targeted the elite class and Russian banks. Russian military hardware, tanks, helicopters, ground troops, and other invasion methods have since gone on the attack in Ukraine.
“Russia’s long-previewed invasion of Ukraine has begun, and so has our response,” said deputy national security adviser Daleep Singh during a press briefing.
“Let me be totally clear: No Russian financial institution is safe if the invasion proceeds. We are ready to press a button to take action on the two largest Russian financial institutions, which collectively hold almost $750 billion in assets or more than half of the total in the Russian banking system.”
Biden’s overall numbers
Poll respondents gave President Joe Biden a 55 percent disapproval rating, with an overall approval rating of 41 percent.
Four percent said they had no opinion on the president’s job performance.
Biden’s poll numbers on the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic also continue to suffer. Forty-seven percent of Americans said they approve of how the president is handling the pandemic, with 52 percent disapproving.
On Biden’s handling of the economy, 37 percent of respondents say they approve of the president’s economic policies, with an overwhelming 62 percent saying they disapprove.
Biden’s handling of foreign affairs only 40 percent of respondents said they approved of the Biden administration’s handling of foreign affairs, while 56 percent disapproved.
The poll numbers reflect an absolute reversal of the poll numbers a year ago, in February 2021.
The Gallup poll was conducted from February 1 to 17 and included 1,008 adults from across the U.S. The margin of error is minus or plus four percentage points.
