Alejandro Mayorkas, the troubled Homeland Security Secretary, has once again created some fervor among Republican political leaders. They have a growing list of reasons why they want this man to resign from his position with Homeland Security.
This time Mayorkas attempted to shift the blame for the border insanity to the GOP, even though they do not have any authority to control his job or the government at this point.
The reason that so many want the man impeached is that the secretary has failed to enforce immigration laws. This has caused a record surge in migrants, human trafficking, and drug smuggling.
GOP Senators Ted Cruz and Lindsey Graham wrote a letter to Mayorkas just this month. They said that his failure to faithfully enforce the nation’s immigration laws and his willful blindness to the “very real humanitarian crisis at our southern border amounts to a gross dereliction of duty and a violation of your oath of office.”
The Republican senators went further saying that instead of taking the necessary steps to address this crisis at the southern border, Mayorkas has allowed the situation there to grow worse. He has pursued policies that have greatly exacerbated the problem while continuing to insist that ‘the border is secure.’ This is a gross dereliction of duty and, if not corrected swiftly, could provide grounds for impeachment.”
Mayorkas spoke with the Dallas Morning News editorial board and he claimed that it was Republican rhetoric that was enticing migrants to come to America. He alleged that when the GOP give the “political cry that the border is open,” it is actually “music to the smugglers’ ears because they take that political rhetoric and they market it.” This is what drives more migrants to make the dangerous trip north.
What?
These remarks not only raised eyebrows but angst as well. When Mayorkas was asked to respond to the calls for his impeachment, he simply said, “I’ve got a lot of work to do, and I intend to continue to do it. That’s my response.”
Mayorkas Blaming Border Crisis Chaos on GOP Not Biden Administration
Did Mayorkas really blame Republican rhetoric for the border chaos and not the Biden Administration’s policies?
Under the present White House administration, almost 5 million migrants have come into the United States.
They come knowing that there is almost no chance that they will be deported. They will be detained by immigration authorities until they claim asylum and then they will be released pending an appearance in court. From there they just stay in the shadows undocumented and can stay.
This isn’t rhetoric, it is the present policy. If the migrants knew that their illegal entrance into America meant certain deportation, they would not make the treacherous journey to cross the border illegally. It takes months, costs thousands of dollars, and could mean the end of their lives.
Secretary Mayorkas is not alone in projecting blame on others instead of owning his failures. He’s not the first to abdicate responsibility for the chaos at the southern border.
Earlier in October, Chris Magnus, the Customs and Border Protection Commissioner said that Republican governors are incentivizing migrants to come to the United States by busing them to sanctuary cities.
“It’s safe to say what’s going on is a pull factor, which is somewhat ironic given the criticism from some of these same governors involved in this about various pull factors that they claim already exist,” Magnus told the Los Angeles Times.
And then there is the vice president herself, Kamala Harris. She was appointed the “border czar” by President Joe
Biden. Harris accused the GOP of a “dereliction of duty” over the border crisis.
You can’t make the stuff up, the Democrats just won’t own their failed policies.
