Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy to Lead President-Elect Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency

President-elect Donald Trump announced billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy will lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Trump stated the two will work together to “dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies.”

“It will become, potentially, ‘The Manhattan Project’ of our time,” said Tuesday evening announcement. “Republican politicians have dreamed about the objectives of ‘DOGE’ for a very long time.”

The president-elect said Ramaswamy and Musk will provide “advice and guidance from outside of Government and will partner with the White House and Office of Management & Budget to drive large-scale structural reform and create an entrepreneurial approach to Government never seen before.”

Trump said the agency will focus on creating a more efficient U.S. government that works to make “life better for all Americans.”

“Importantly, we will drive out the massive waste and fraud which exists throughout our annual 6.5 Trillion Dollars of Government Spending. They will work together to liberate our Economy and make the U.S. Government accountable to ‘WE THE PEOPLE,'” said Trump.

“Their work will conclude no later than July 4, 2026 — A Smaller Government, with more efficiency and less bureaucracy, will be the perfect gift to America on the 250th Anniversary of The Declaration of Independence. I am confident they will succeed!”

Ramaswamy, Musk respond to appointments

In a post on X, Ramaswamy reacted to his appointment.

“We will not go gently, Elon Musk,” he wrote.

Vivek Ramaswamy has been a vociferous supporter of Trump after he suspended his own presidential campaign on January 24.

Ramaswamy, founder of Roivant Sciences, a pharmaceutical company, said in a statement on X that he would be dropping out of the appointment with the Ohio Senate.

“And yes, this means I’m withdrawing myself from consideration for the pending Senate appointment in Ohio,” wrote Ramaswamy. “Whoever Governor DeWine appoints to J.D.’s seat has some big shoes to fill. I will help them however I can.”

Likewise, Musk has been a crucial component of the Trump campaign, crisscrossing critical battleground states leading up to the 2024 presidential election.

Musk, responding to his position in the Trump White House, wrote, “Threat to democracy? Nope, a threat to BUREAUCRACY!!!”

The wealthiest man in the world, who said he voted for former Democratic candidates for president, including President Joe Biden in the past, endorsed Trump this summer after the first assassination attempt on the 45th president on July 13.

The abundance of Trump Cabinet positions came rapidly after the president-elect’s landslide win against Vice President Kamala Harris.

President-elect Trump has chosen top Republicans, including Governor of South Dakota Kristi Noem as secretary of Homeland Security and Florida Senator Marco Rubio to serve as Secretary of State.

Additionally, New York Representative Elie Stefanik has been tapped as ambassador to the United States, and former Governor of Arkansas Mike Huckabee has been appointed ambassador to Israel.
