Former President Trump Soars to Double-Digit Lead Over Biden, New General Election Poll Finds

According to a new poll, former President Donald Trump currently leads President Joe Biden by 10 points among voters.

ABC and the Washington Post released a poll Sunday, which found that if the 2024 presidential election were held today, the former president would win 52% to 42% over Biden. Respondents also had a poor view of President Biden’s handling of the U.S.-Mexico border and the economy, in addition to his age.

However, the Post played down the results of its poll after it showed Trump with such a sizeable lead.

“The sizable margin of Trump’s lead in this survey is significantly at odds with other public polls that show the general election contest a virtual dead heat,” wrote the Post on Sunday. “The difference between this poll and others, as well as the unusual makeup of Trump’s and Biden’s coalitions in this survey, suggest it is probably an outlier.”

In the meantime, according to the poll, Biden’s approval rating sits at 37%, and 56% of respondents disapprove of his presidency.

President Biden is facing a crisis of confidence with members of his own party. Around 60% of Democrat and Democrat-leaning respondents say they would prefer a different nominee.

Critics of the president cited his age, the ongoing border crisis, and his handling of the economy as pain points with his administration.

When contacted by Fox News Digital, Biden’s 2024 campaign didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

McCarthy’s decision to launch an impeachment inquiry into Biden received positive poll numbers

Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy’s decision to launch an impeachment inquiry polled well, with 58% of respondents saying the president is being held accountable like any other president under the law. The poll found that just 32% agreed McCarthy was being unfairly victimized.

Trump also holds a commanding lead among younger voters, with a 20% lead over Biden among voters 35 and younger.

Age continues to remain one of the most unpopular factors for President Biden’s re-election campaign, with 70% of individuals polled saying he is too old to hold office, while only 50% said the same of Trump.

President Biden, at 80 years old, is the oldest person to run for president in the United States, followed closely by Trump, at 77. Biden would be 82 when he enters office for a second term.

The Washington Post and ABC conducted the poll between September 15-20, using a random sample of 1,006 U.S. adults and contacting them both through cell phones and landlines. The poll has a margin of error of 3.5%
