More than three dozen Congressional Republicans have written a letter demanding President Joe Biden submit to a cognitive test.
The searing letter outlined their concerns about his fitness for office.
Thirty-seven Republican lawmakers signed the letter, authored by former White House physician Rep. Ronny Jackson. Recent examples of 79-year-old Biden’s ‘mental decline,’ including forgetting names and numbers and his recent hot mic moments, are all cited in the letter.
“The American people should have absolute confidence in their President. They deserve to know that he or she can perform the duties of Head of State and Commander-in-Chief,” the letter states.
“They deserve full transparency on the mental capabilities of their highest elected leader. To achieve this, we urge you to submit to a cognitive test immediately.”
Evidence of decline
Jackson previously wrote a similar letter in June which did not receive a public reply from the White House. The letter comes on the heels of recent polling, which showed that growing numbers of Americans are having doubts about the mental fitness of President Biden.
The House members’ letter cites incidents of the President misreading clearly-marked figures, the names of senior Cabinet officials, and suggested Biden has shown increasing symptoms of Alzheimer’s’ Disease.
Jackson wrote, “The Alzheimer’s Association lists ‘changes in mood and personality,’ including being ‘more easily upset’ as one of the ten signs of mental decline.”
Jackson continued, ‘You displayed this type of mood change during a cabinet meeting on January 24, 2022, when you apparently did not know your microphone was on after finishing your opening remarks, and you called a White House reporter a “stupid son of a b****” in response to a question asked on inflation.’
Biden personally apologized following the incident. Jackson continued, “As a former physician to three Presidents of the United States, I know what it takes mentally and physically to execute the duties of Commander-in-Chief and Head of State. Joe Biden has continually proven to me and to the world that something isn’t right,” Jackson told Fox News.
“Joe Biden has continually proven to me to the world that something isn’t right,” Jackson explained. He cited former President Trump’s willingness to take the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MOCA) in 2018 when Jackson was Trump’s doctor.
“We believe that, regardless of gender, age, or political party, all Presidents should follow the example set by former President Trump to document and demonstrate sound mental abilities,” wrote the lawmakers. They added that it should be ‘routine’ for all future presidents.
Legislators who signed the letter included Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona, GOP conference vice chairman Mike Johnson of Louisiana, Republican Study Committee chairman Rep. Jim Banks of Indiana, Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, and several members in addition to Rep. Jackson, who hold medical degrees also signed the letter.
Rep. Jackson reiterated, “This is not a partisan issue. When I discussed taking a cognitive test with President Trump, he was eager to assure the American people and to put the fake news media’s stories to bed.”
“Why won’t President Biden do the same?” asked Jackson.
