Tesla and Twitter CEO predicted that former President Donald Trump would be re-elected by a “landslide” if he is indicted or potentially put in handcuffs and arrested this week.
“If this happens, Trump will be re-elected in a landslide victory, “tweeted Musk.
Musk reacted to a Fox News segment that stated that the Manhattan District Attorney’s office has asked to meet with law enforcement before a possible Trump indictment.
Secret Service is predicted to take the lead on what they will and won’t allow — including whether or not to place Trump in handcuffs. The conference is set to “discuss logistics for some time next week, which would mean that they are anticipating an indictment next week.” According to a source with the court, the meeting was requested on Thursday but has yet to be set.
The possible indictment originates from the long investigation surrounding Trump’s alleged payment of “hush money” to former stripper and porn actress Stormy Daniels.
Toward the end of the 2016 presidential campaign, Michael Cohen, Trump’s then-lawyer, sent $130,000 to Daniels to silence her from exposing a 2006 affair with Trump. The former president denies the affair and reimbursed Cohen through installment payments. Trump denies the affair and reimbursed Cohen through installments.
Saturday morning, Trump posted on his Truth Social media platform and indicated that he expects to be “ARRESTED ON TUESDAY.” the Manhattan DA’s office has investigated the “hush money” scandal for five years. Current DA Alvin Bragg is steering the investigation.
Trump wrote, “NOW ILLEGAL LEAKS FROM A CORRUPT & HIGHLY POLITICAL MANHATTAN DISTRICT ATTORNEYS OFFICE, WHICH HAS ALLOWED NEW RECORDS TO BE SET IN VIOLENT CRIME BEING ABLE TO BE PROVEN, & BASED ON AN OLD & FULLY DEBUNKED (BY NUMEROUS OTHER PROSECUTORS!) FAIRYTALE, THE FAR & AWAY LEADING REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE & FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, WILL BE ARRESTED ON TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK. PROTEST, TAKE OUR NATION BACK!”
When reached for comment on the impending indictment, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office would not “confirm or comment” on the upcoming charge.
Trump allies: Probe politically motivated
The possible indictment has sparked talk online about how it may affect the former president’s 2024 bid for the White House and reignited claims from allies of Trump that the probe is politically motivated.
“It’s ALL FOR POLITICS! This is what they do in communist countries to destroy their political opponents! Republicans in Congress MUST subpoena these communists and END this!” tweeted GOP Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia.
Vocal Trump opponent, former Representative Adam Kinzinger, fired back at Greene, saying, “You break the law, you go to jail. Whomp whomp, marj.”
Author Scott Adams echoed Musk’s sentiment that the indictment may boost Trump’s election chances.
“If they handcuff Trump, he is your next president,” said Adams.
However, others did not share Adams’ and Musk’s opinions. Greg Sargent, a Washington Post columnist, noted that other situations were predicted to boost Trump’s popularity that hadn’t panned out.
“Yet again, we’re told holding Trump accountable for corruption/crimes will lead to GOP victories. But this hasn’t happened. People said impeachment would cause a backlash, but he lost reelex,” Sargent said. “People said 1/6 committee would cause backlash, but Rs dramatically underperformed in 2022.”
